What is Supplemental Security Income (SSI)? 

SSI is a federal disability benefits program run by Social Security Administration (SSA).  SSI provides financial assistance and access to Medicaid insurance upon qualifying for the program.  SSI is means tested program and you must qualify based on financial need.  SSI is meant to provide financial assistance intended to assist in paying for food, shelter and clothing.  The Full Benefit Rate for SSI in 2015 is $733.00 per month.  For more detailed information on this program click this link (can provide the link to SSA Website explaining SSI).
